Nintendo Switch Launch Games to Include Mario, Splatoon, and Skyrim: Report

Earlier we reported that the Nintendo Switch price could start from $250. Now it seems that a few launch games for Nintendo's next console have been leaked.

The long-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will not be available at launch due to localisation issues as per several sources. However the Wii U version of the game will still be released.

To take the place of Zelda, is Mario. The game seen during the Switch's reveal trailer will be a day one title “in all territories” according to LetsPlayVideoGames. The site also shed light on what to expect from other yet to be announced games for the console when it hits the shelves.

“The title will apparently feature a 3D open world hub from which different worlds can be selected, with multiple objectives to complete in each, much like Mario 64 or Mario Galaxy. This may seem obvious, but we share this information to specify that this will not be a Super Mario 3D World-style game where the action is in 3D, but each stage is a linear path designed to be completed a single time,” a post on the site reads.

It appears that the multiplayer mode shown off in the Switch reveal video is the cooperative mode of the game that will ensure players don't go too far from the other and the gameplay of one will not impede the progress of the other. Furthermore, this Mario game will have a playable demo for the press in January.

Also of interest is Skyrim for the Switch. Though Bethesda refused to confirm it would hit Nintendo's console (which could possibly be an attempt to ensure sales of its Skyrim remaster on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One aren't cannibalised), it is expected at launch along with token mod support “much like the PS4” which is to say content creators cannot use anything but in-game assets.

Finally, what to expect from the $300 variant of the Switch has also be made public. It will could release with a new version of Nintendo's multiplayer hit, Splatoon - which will have a new one on one mode.

“We have also heard that the current plan is for the more expensive Switch SKU (stock keeping unit) to come bundled with a new version of Splatoon. A big part of the push for this will be a 1 vs 1 mode where two players on separate Switches can fight over a map, switching their weapon of choice at will mid-game,” the post reads before stating Nintendo plans to support it with free content like it did for the Wii U version of the game.
